Most plumbing is out of sight until it stops working.

Supply lines, drains and valves sit inside walls, under floors and in the ground, so a problem is rarely visible at first. These photographs are from our Google Business Profile.

What to Do When a Pipe Bursts at 2 AM

A step-by-step guide for Van Nuys and San Fernando Valley homeowners: how to limit water damage when a pipe bursts in the middle of the night.

Questions

Plumbing questions from Valley homes

What should I do first when a pipe bursts?

Shut off the main water valve at the house: clockwise until it stops, or a quarter turn if it has a lever handle. Then keep people and electronics away from the water, stop using the affected fixtures and call (424) 610-9522. If you smell gas, leave the building and call the gas company or 911 first.

How can I tell whether there is a leak I cannot see?

Turn off every fixture and appliance that uses water and look at your water meter. If its leak indicator keeps moving, water is escaping somewhere. Other signs are a bill that has risen for no reason, a warm spot on a floor, the sound of running water in a quiet house and a stain that returns after painting.

Can you work on the older pipes in a Valley home?

Pipe repair and replacement is one of our services, including changing galvanized steel pipe to copper or PEX. Many mid-century Valley houses have some of the original steel supply pipe or clay and cast iron drains, and what is behind your walls depends on the year the house was built and what has been repiped since.

Which places do you serve?

We are based in Van Nuys and serve Van Nuys, Lake Balboa, Encino, Sherman Oaks, Tarzana, Studio City, Valley Village, North Hollywood, Reseda, Woodland Hills, Calabasas, Porter Ranch, Pacific Palisades, Bel Air and Chatsworth, for homes and businesses.

When can I reach you?

Our hours on Google are: Open 24 hours, Sunday to Friday. The full week is on the contact page, and the phone number is (424) 610-9522. For a plumbing emergency, call rather than send the form, and shut off the water at the main valve while you wait.
